GAIL agrees to pay Rs.5 lakhs to injured persons along with other benefits

MAMIDIKUDURU (East Godavari)
Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) has finally agreed to pay Rs.5 lakhs to those injured in the tragedy that struck on the people of Nagaram village of Mamidikuduru in East Godavari.

It may be recalled here that 21 persons died with the one Rudhra Suribabu who died on Tuesday while undergoing treatment in the GAIL tragedy. The District Collector Neethu Prasad held talks with the agitating families for rehabilitations have finally agreed to put an end to the relay hunger strikes.

Zilla Parishad Chairman Namana Rambabu, P Gannavaram MLA Pulavarthi Narayana along with the GAIL Executive Director (HR) Amit Kumar Ray, Executive Director (O&M) Rangananathan participated in the talks.

The GAIL agrees:
The GAIL has agreed to pay Rs.5 lakhs compensation to each of those injured in the tragedy. For reconstruction of houses, the GAIL has agreed to pay Rs.5 lakhs each to 16 houses completely damaged. It agreed to pay Rs.8,000 to each of the damaged coconut tree and Rs.15,000 for a year per acre of coconut plantation. GAIL agreed to give employment to the families.

It may be recalled here that A blast in the Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) pipe line leaked followed by an explosion at Nagaram village at Mamidikuduru mandal of East Godavari district killing 15 people and injured 50 on June 27.
