AP Deputy Chief Minister Chinarajappa distributes compensation to Nagaram victims

Chinarajappa said that complete security was taken at the Gas Collecting Station and Gas Terminal. He said that the issue of shifting the pipelines to sea shore has been brought to the notice of the GAIL.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that 1,196 coconut plants, 24 houses, 16 vehicles, two cycles were destroyed in the gas pipeline leakage incident. He said that the government has allotted Rs.94,78, 132 towards compensation.
With the Prime Minister’s relief fund, the total amount sanctioned is Rs.1.45 crore. He said that efforts would be made to get compensation of Rs.6,000 for destroyed coconut tree and Rs.2,000 towards saplings, assured Chinarajappa.
Rajappa said Rs1.45 crore was distributed to 21 family members of those killed and kin of 19 of those injured. He gave cheques worth Rs. 2lakh received from the Prime Minister's Relief Fund to family members of those killed and Rs. 50,000 to families of those injured. It may be recalled that the GAIL contribution of Rs.20 lakhs and AP Government’s ex-gratia of Rs.3 lakh was paid. A total of Rs.25 lakhs has been paid to 21 deceased family members in the incident.
CPI national executive committee member Dr.K Narayana has demanded a CBI probe into the incident. Speaking to villagers, he said that the compensation announced by GAIL, Union and State Governments was not enough. He demanded them to pay Rs.50 lakh to the families of those killed and Rs.25 lakh to the injured. Amalapuram Former MP GV. Harsha Kumar too demanded a probe by the CBI.
It may be recalled here that GAIL gas leak that occurred on June 27 claimed 21 lives and injured many.
