Death toll in GAIL tragedy rises to 17

The death toll in the GAIL tragedy that struck the Nagaram village of Mamidikuduru mandal of East Godavari has gone to 17. It may be recalled here that 12 persons were killed on Friday leaving another 29 injured with burns.
The injured are being treated at Amalapuram, Rajolu, Nagaram and Kakinada hospitals. The condition of four injured Kapu Chinna, Suryanarayana, Rajya Lakshmi, Mohammed Tanik who are taking treatment at Kakinada hospital are stated to be serious.

YSRCP president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Saturday called on the families of the victims and those undergoing treatment in the GAIL pipeline leakage and fire tragedy. He expressed condolences to the families of the bereaved families.Jagan Mohan Reddy demand payment of Rs.1 crore as compensation to the families of those killed in the tragedy. He demanded stringent measures for non-recurring of such accidents.
Jagan Mohan Reddy said that the gas from the region gives rise to thousands of crore of income but the State has neither share nor security to the people here. He said that this is not the first time accidents occurring here. He alleged that the coal generated from Singareni collieries, the share is 50 per cent for the State and the rest to the Centre but our State has no share in it after bifurcation of the State. He wanted the Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu to pressurize for getting a share in it. Speaking to media, Jagan Mohan Reddy demanded a compensation of Rs.25 lakhs per acre of coconut plantation and a job to a house. He also demanded a pension of Rs.20,000 pm to the kith and kin of those died.
