'Counter action teams to arrest Maoist movement', says DGP Prasada Rao

Director General of Police B Prasada Rao addressing a press conference on Tuesday in Hyderabad said that counter action teams have been positioned to arrest the movement of Maoists in the back drop of elections in all 13 districts of Seemandhra and Rayalaseema regions.
The DGP said that a close watch has been posed on the movement of Maoist that had called upon the people to boycott polls. Armed police forces were deployed in the Maoist affected areas of Srikakulam, Viziangaram and Visakhapatnam. He said four Indian Air force helicopters were kept ready for emergencies and as many as 1.2 lakh policemen including Home Guards form neighbouring State of Karnataka and Odisha would be deployed to handle any situation.
284 companies of Para military forces and 69 companies of APSP were drawn for peaceful conduct of the polls and a special police team would continuously move in one route covering three polling station locations.
Seizes Rs.131.19 crore
Prasada Rao said that the police so far have seized Rs.131.19 crore during vehicle checking in the State and Rs.48.50 crore was returned to those who presented documents confirming the source of the money. He said that a close tab was kept on provocative speeches made during the election. A criminal case against Gowtham Reddy, brother of Congress nominee from Huzurnagar Assembly constituencies following seizure of cash.. The vehicle belongs to Gowtham Reddy, Chief Executive officer of Photon Energy who claimed the cash was part of the company money, said the DGP.
