Congress puts all efforts on rebel Rajya Sabha candidate
January 30, 2014 - Hyderabad
Congress leaders continued to put up their efforts to force the rebel independent Rajya Sabha members to withdraw their nominations.
As a part of the strategy, Minister for Tourism Vatti Vasantha Kumar tried to dig out the old cases. He submitted a petition to the Returning Officer S Rajasadaram asking him to initiate against KVV Satyanarayana Raju (Chaitanya Raju) under section 125(1) of Representation of People's Act. Vasant Kumar contended that the Chaitanya Raju had not furnished in his affidavit the details of the criminal cases pending aginst him. he said two criminal cases were pending against him that belong to 2006 and 2009 in the courts of second and fifth additional judicial first call magistrate, Rajahmundry.
Congress leaders even continued to pressurise the MLAs who had signed their nomination papers. PCC president Botcha Satyanarayana was non-committal on the action against the MLAs who planned to vote the rebels. He said that a general whip will be issued asking the MLAs to support the official candidates. All of them have to show the voter slip to the designated agents before casting their vote.
