BJP faults EC on landing of choppers
April 26, 2014 - Hyderabad
Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday criticised the Election Commission of India and State Election Commission for not following a uniform policy in issuing permission for landing of helicopters at election campaigns. He said that because of the SEC policy, hurdles were being created by different government agencies in giving permissions for landing of choppers or private planes. Venkaiah Naidu said when he applied for permission to land his copter in Tadepalligudem on Friday, he was directed to get prior approval from police, R&B, PWD and the District Collector. He said that though the party workers had gone through the procedure, the airstrip is not ready as the farmers were using it to dry paddy, said Venkaiah Naidu.
The Superintendent of Police, West Godavari Harikrishna said that it was true that paddy was being dried on the airstrip and it was the duty of the political party concerned or some government agency to keep the runway ready and it was not the job of the police.
Venkaiah Naidu demands YSRCP stand
Venkaiah Naidu demanded the YSR Congress Party to spell out its stand on the post-poll alliance with the third alternative, proposed to be formed with the backing of the Congress. He said that Congress was resorting to back door politics to form the government with the support of parties like YSRCP, TRS, Jai Samaikyandhra Party and others.
