Ashok Gajapati Raju's announcement renaming Shamshabad airport after NTR creates flutter

The Union Minister for Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapati Raju who declared on Thursday to rename the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad after TDP founder president and former Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao created a flutter among political circles.

It may be recalled that the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister designate Nara Chandrababu Naidu announced in the recently concluded Mahanadu that it is a right time to rename Shamshabad Airport after TDP founder and former Chief Minister NT Rama Rao as the Union Minister for Civil Aviation is from TDP.

TDP was demanding right from 2008 when the then Chief Minster Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy had named Shamshabad Airport with the name of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Meanwhile Congress leaders have been vehemently opposed the move to rename the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

Rajya Sabha member and strong loyalist of Congress family V Hanumantha Rao said that it is not a good tradition and added that such attempts will hurt the sentiments of Telangana people and also Congress party and even suggested to rename the Visakhapatnam Airport after NTR.
