  • Telangana BJP leaders threaten to quit party in protest against alliance with TDP
    HYDERABAD: Even on side, the BJP top leaders are holding a meeting on the seat sharing deal with TDP, leaders from Telangana opposed electoral alliance and even threatened to quit the party. Telangana district party chiefs told the BJP spokesperson Praksh Javedkar of their threat. It may be recalled that he along with Naresh Gujral and G Satish reached Hyderabad on Saturday morning to finalize a deal.
  • CPI releases its first list of candidates
    HYDERABAD: CPI on Saturday released its first list of contesting candidates in Telangana. They are Gunda Mallesh – Bellampalli, K Sambasiva Rao – Kothagudem, Venkata Reddy – Munugodu, Ravinder Kumar –Devarakonda, Dr. Narayana – Vyra and Ramesh – Pinapaka.

    HYDERABAD: TRS named T Bhimsen to contest for Lok Sabha from Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency.
  • Lok Satta will not have any alliances
    HYDERABAD: Lok Satta party State president Katari Srinivasa Rao said that it's party will not have any alliances in Telangana. He said that LSP will contest in 50 Assembly and 6 Lok Sabha constituencies. The list will be announced on Sunday and Dr. Jaya Prakash Narayan will file his nomination on Monday for Malkajgiri constituency, he said.

  • YSRCP will win in majority seats', says Gurnath Reddy
    HYDERABAD: YSRCP MLA Gurnath Reddy predicted that YSRCP will win more than 20 MP and 130 Assembly seats in the ensuing elections. Speaking to media on Saturday, he alleged that JC Diwakar Reddy paid Rs.50 crores and joined TDP. He welcomed the rumours of cine actor Balakrishna contesting from Hindupur.
  • Stage set for first phase of ZPTC and MPTC elections
    HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh State Chief Electoral Officer Ramakanth Reddy speaking to media on Saturday said that all arrangements were made for the conduct of first phase of ZPTC and MPTC elections on Sunday. He said that the polling will be held from 7am to 5pm and on the basis of ballot system. However, polling will be held from 7am to 4pm at Manthani division in Karimnagar. White coloured ballots for ZPTC and rose coloured ballots for MPTC he said. Ramakanth Reddy said as many as 6370 polling stations were identified as sensitive and 95,031 police personnel are deployed for election duties, he said.
  • Penukonda TDP MLA Parthasarthy arrested and released on bail
    ANATHAPUR: Telugu Desam Party MLA BK Parthasarathy on Saturday arrested and released on bail on election code violation. Six ZPTC and MPTC members were arrested along with him and were released.
  • BR Ambedkar Open University will accepts 'tatkal' registrations
    HYDERABAD: The Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University (BRAOU) will accept ‘tatkal’ registration for its eligibility test from April 4 to 12. Candidates who have not applied till now and are desirous of appearing for the test can register at any A.P. Online Centre by making a payment of Rs.335. The university will conduct the test on April 13 (Sunday) from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. across the State.
  • MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi announces assets
    Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi declared his movable assets of Rs.27.84 lakh and immovable assets to the tune of more than Rs.3.10 crore. The affidavit furnished by him along with his nomination for Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency seat on Thursday. The movable assets worth Rs.6.35 lakh and immovable assets Rs.51.30 lakh in the name of his wife. The declaration included Rs.11.50 lakh cash in hand and deposits around Rs.16.34 lakh in two banks apart from 20 tolas of gold jewellery worth Rs.6 lakh..

  • Flight passenger attempts suicide inside a plane
    HYDERABAD: A flight passenger identified as Mohd.Imtiyaz allegedly attempted to commit suicide inside a flight that arrived here from Dubai by slitting his throat inside a washroom of the flight. He was a resident of Maddannapeta has been admitted to a hospital in an unconscious state by Rajiv Gandhi International Airport police officials. Police are trying to ascertain the reasons for the attempt.
    Customs officials seize one and half kilo gold
    Customs officials at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on Saturday took two women passengers and seized one and half kilo gold and are investigating.
  • Fire accident at the residence of former MLA claims two lives
    RAJAMPETA: A fire that broke at the residence of the former MLA K Madhanmohan Reddy in the early hours of Saturday claimed two lives. The house of the MLA was situated at Rajampet Railway station road. The two deceased are identified as Pothireddy (65) and his wife Lakshmamma (60).The deceased were working for the MLA for last 15 years. The incident occurred at 4am. The police rushed to the spot and are investigating the cause of the accident probably by a cylinder blast in a kitchen room.

    HYDERABAD: The police who conducted raids on drunk and drive have taken 12 persons including a cine writer and director B.A.N.Ravi and they will be produced in a court on Saturday.
  • PGMET students in a fix
    VIJAYAWADA: The decision to conduct PGEMET 2014 test afresh keeps medical students in a fix. According to AP Junior Doctor's Association member Kranthi Kumar said that those who have applied for Manipal University and Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka – COMDEK, Manipal University has nearly 200 PG seats and majority of them numbering to 170 have been taken by students from Andhra Pradesh who have also written PGEMET. The first counselling for Manipal is already over and the students have paid the first instalment of fee of Rs.12 lakhs. Following the re-examination of the PGMET on April 27, the last date for withdrawal from Manipal is April 21 and if a student cancels a seat will before April 21 will get back the fee in full and beyond that they will have to forgo 50 per cent of the fee amount paid, said Kranthi Kumar.

    KAKINADA: The BJP convener for Kakinada Assembly constituency doused himself with kerosene and tried to immolate himself during the party's meeting on Friday. The action following a news story appeared in a TV news channel that the BJP had allocated Razole and Pithapuram Assembly tickets to Rapaka Varaprasad and Vanga Geetha who were working for the Congress.

    HYDERABAD: Cine actor Balakrishna is likely to cntest from Hindupur on TDP ticket according to sources. Without naming a place, he said that he has been getting invitations to contest from all the regions but a final call will be taken after consulting TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu, he said. Meanwhile, Chandra Babu Naidu's son Nara Lokesh will be campaigning from April 10 or 12 in both Telangana and Seemandhra regions.
  • TDP writes on YSRCP to Election Commission
    HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party Polit Bureau member Yanamala Ramakrishnudu in a letter to the Election Commission alleged that Shashi daily newspaper and TV is writing and presenting favourable stories to YSRCP without the permission from Election Commission. He said that the writing and presentation will influence voters and wanted the EC to expenditure on them should be linked to the candidates' expenditure.
  • MSP announces party candidates list
    WARANGAL: Mahajana Socialist Party on Friday released its candidates for Lok Sabha and Assembly seats by party president Manda Krishna Madiga. He said that the party will contest in 30 Assembly and 5 Lok Sabha seats. The party named candidates for 18 Assembly seats and 3 MP seats. Manda Krishna Madiga will contest form Vardhannapeta in Warangal Assembly seats. Social justice was done by allotting 7 seats to BCs, 4 for SCs, 2 for OCs, 2 for STs and 3 for Minorities, said Krishna Madiga.
  • Former Minister DL Ravindranath Reddy to join TDP
    KADAPA: Former Minister DL Ravindra Reddy is set to sail with TDP and will join the party in presence of its president Nara Chandrababu Naidu in Praja Garjana meeting on April 7 according to sources. The six times MLA from Mydukur held consultations with his followers and conducted a public ballot to elicit people opinion of Mydukur constituency. The Allagadda Market Committee Chairman Palachani Bali Reddy and former NEDCAP director Siddhamreddy Rami Reddy have decided to join TDP.
  • Film writer BS Ravi was booked by the police for driving under the influence of alcohol. Film actor Ravi Teja, comedian Srinivas Reddy and few others were travelling along with Ravi. It was alleged that the police did not stop the vehicles of politicians on the same route.
  • Seat sharing between Telugu Desam and Bharatiya Janata Party will come to a conclusion today. TDP has prepared to release their first list of candidates yesterday. However, BJP informed the party that their national leaders are arriving in Hyderabad today to discuss the seat sharing. TDP is likely to announce their list of nominees today.
  • Two politicians belonging to Telugu Desam Party were taken into custody by the police for allegedly distributing money to voters. The incident happened at Chetturu in Anantapur district. Rs 40,000 was seized from them.
