Rs.50 crore released for Agricultural University’, says agricultural minister Pulla Rao

Minister for Agriculture Prathipati Pulla Rao said on Sunday that an Agricultural University will be set up at Lam village in Guntur district.
Speaking to press, the agricultural Minister said that Rs.50 crore for the purpose was released. He said that the State Government has urged the Central Government to set up a regional fisheries development board affiliated to the National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad. He said that the Centre has asked us to send the proposals. He said that the Centre has agreed to release Rs.340 crore for the implementation of drip irrigation scheme in the districts where the rainfall is less.
Pulla Rao said that the State Government has urged the Centre to release at least Rs.500 crore to adopt drip irrigation system in the State. He said that the Centre agreed to release Rs.340 crore but will do so after the State is accorded with Special category status. Centre has sanctioned four ‘Krishi Vignan Kendrams’ to the State to help farms in adopting the latest technologies.
The agricultural minister said that the State Government was trying to focus more on soil tests and provide nutrients for the enrichment of the soil that may cost Rs.300 to Rs.400 crore.
