AP High Court directs State Government to conduct civil polls within four weeks

A Division Bench of Andhra Pradesh High court comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyothi Sengupta and Justice PV Sanjay Kumar on Monday directed the State Government to conduct elections to the urban local bodies within four week.
The term of the various municipalities and other urban bodies expired in 2009 and they now being run by special officers. Forum for Good Governance that filed the writ petition complained that elections are not being conducted and officers could not be entrusted the charge.
The Chief Secretary of the State who requested for more time was turned down. Sources said that the State Government will approach the Supreme Court giving a direction on seeking some more time.
