Seemandhra YSRCP and TDP MLAs clash with TRS and the former tears Telangana Bill copies


December 16, 2013 - Hyderabad

A scuffle was witnessed between the pro and anti-Telangana MLAs minutes after the Telangana Bill was tabled. TDP and YSRCP MLAs tore copies of the AP State Re-organization Bill 2013 minutes after it was tabled and some of the YSRCP MLAs burnt the copies at the media point when the police found it difficult to bring the situation under control. The AP State Assembly witnessed unruly scenes on Monday when the bill was tabled amidst protests from Seemandhra MLAs while supporting from Telangana MLAs. The Speaker directed Legislature Secretary S Rajasadaram read the covering letter. The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the assembly is likely to meet later in the day to take a decision on when to take up the bill for debate. Telangana legislators are demanding that the house immediately take up the bill while their counterparts from Seemandhra want special session next month.

Text of the President letter

The following is the text of the President's covering letter: "Whereas the Government of India after extensive consultations with all stakeholders and after consideration of all aspects relating to the bifurcation of the existing State of AP and the creation of a new State of Telangana, propose that a Bill 'Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill, 2013' to provide for formation of the State of Telangana and for matters incidental and connected there with should be introduced in Parliament as early as practicable." "The proposal contained in the Bill affects the area and boundaries of existing states of Andhra Pradesh in as much as it relates to the formation of State of Telangana by separation of certain territories from the existing State of AP. In pursuance of proviso to Article 3 of Constitution of India I hereby refer the said Bill to State Legislature of AP for expressing its views there on by January 23, 2014."
