‘Lok Satta responsible for three constitutional amendments’, says Jayaprakash Narayan

Interacting with the media on the occasion of seventh anniversary of Lok Satta Party on Tuesday, Dr Jayaprakash Narayana said that it could bring some changes in politics though a lot has to be done. He said that the party is responsible for bringing three constitutional amendments by Parliament on imposing a ceiling on the number of Ministers at the Centre and in States, on providing for autonomy to cooperatives and on facilitating formation of a Judicial Appointments Commission. He said that Lok Satta was instrumental in the adoption of laws providing for disclosure of assets and liabilities and criminal antecedents of electoral contestants, formation of local courts, political funding law and right to information. He said on the issue of statehood to Telangana, he said that they were for an amicable and permanent solution and added that the concerns of the aggrieved people should be addressed first even if the State is united or divided. Jayaprakash Narayan said that the Lok Satta Party would meet on October 19 to decide on its strategy for 2014 general elections.
