Lok Sabha Speaker rejects 13 Seemandhra MP resignations

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Friday rejected resignations of all the 13 MPs from Seemandhra region as they were not genuine or voluntary. The rejected resignations include 10 Congress MPs, two YSRCP and one of the TDP.
It may be noted here that all the MPs have put their papers in protest against the Centre's decision to bifurcate the State of Andhra Pradesh. The Speaker has taken the decision to reject under Article 101(3) of the Constitution and Rule 240 of Lok Sabha procedure to be adopted by the Speaker when a member wants to quit the House.
Lok Sabha official sources said that under Article 101(3)when such letter of resignation is received, the Speaker has to make appropriate enquiry as she deems fit top get satisfied that the member has taken such a decision on his/her own volition. There is no time frame in the Constitution or the rule of procedure for the Speaker to take her decision on such resignation issue.
The MPs whose resignations have been rejected are GV Harsha Kumar, K Bapiraju, R Sambasiva Rao, M Srenivasulu Reddy, SPY Reddy, A Sai Prathap, L Rajagopal, A Venkatarami Reddy, V Arun Kumar and Sabbam Hari all of from Congress, K Narayana TDP and Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy from YSRCP and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of YSRCP president.
It may be recalled that Lagadapati Rajagopal has already moved the Delhi High Court seeking a direction to the Speaker to accept his resignation. He claimed that Speaker had no authority not to accept his resignation.
YSRCP MPs to go to Court
YSRCP leader terming the decision of the Speaker as 'unfortunate' said that they have submitted their resignations in proper format. YSRCP chief has received a call from the Speaker's office to this effect. Jagan Mohan Reddy said that they would be approaching the court to seek a direction.
