Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy reviews relief and rescue measures

The Indian Metorological Department's bulletin said that "The severe cyclonic storm ‘Helen’ over west central Bay of Bengal moved slightly westwards, crossed Andhra Pradesh coast close to south of Machilipatnam (near latitude 16.1°N and longitude 81.2°E between 1330 and 1430 hrs IST of November 22, 2013 as a cyclonic storm with a wind speed of 80-90 kmph." "It moved westward and lay centred at 1430 hrs IST of Nov 22, 2013 over coastal Andhra Pradesh near latitude 16.1 degrees N and longitude 81.0 degrees E, close to southwest of Machilipatnam. It would move west-south-westwards and weaken into a deep depression during next six hours," the IMD bulletin said.

State's Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, who reviewed the relief and rescue measures this morning, directed the Chief Secretary to closely monitor the situation in coordination with collectors of all coastal districts.

Various teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have already been rushed to Nellore and Prakasam districts. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also rushed six teams to the region. A control room to monitor the situation has also been set up at the state secretariat in Hyderabad.
