High Court directs State to file report on land allotment to political parties

December 24, 2013 - Hyderabad

A Division Bench of the AP High Court comprising Chief Justice Kalyan Jyothi Sen Gupta and Just PV Sanjay Kumar on Tuesday directed the Principal Secretary, Revenue to file a detailed affidavit on how land was allotted to political parties at low prices. It also ordered notices to be sent to Congress, TDP, TRS and other political parties.

These directions came following a writ petition filed by Gopi Krishna of Gudur challenging the Government's order allotting 97 cents of land in Gudur town to the Nellore District Congress Committee. The court also directed the physical presence of the Principal Secretary. It is alleged that the land was allotted at Rs.100 a square yard whereas the Sub-Collector recommended a price of Rs.6,350 a sq.yd.

The Bench had ordered notices to the beneficiaries who included CPI(ML), New Democracy, CPI(M),CPI(Visalandhra Samithi). The Bench felt that all these had to pay the current market price. It hinted that dispossession may not be ordered but the correct price had to be paid to the government. The case will be listed on January 30, 2014.
