Ramanaidu and six others conferred with Padma Awards

The Centre has conferred Padma Bhushan to well-known film producer D Ramanaidu. Six others from the State were conferred with the Padma Shri award.

- Rekandar Nageswara Rao (Surabhi Babji), Secretary of Sri Venkateswara Natya Mandali
- Dr. C Venkata S Ram (Medicine), President and CEO of Mediciti and expert in hypertension
- Dr. Radhika Herzberger (Literature and Education), Director of Rishi Valley School
The following who have strong connections with the state were also conferred with Padma awards.

Playback singer S Janaki has refused to accept the award, saying that after 55 years of her service to music, singing in all major Indian languages she deserved more than a Padma Bhushan award. She also alleged that there is an inherent bias towards artistes from North India and artistes from South India are not considered for prestigious awards despite their accomplishments. She said she deserves a Bharat Ratna.
