Asaduddin Owaisi remanded to 14-day judicial custody in a 2005 case

Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi surrendered before the Judicial First Class Magistrate K Maruthi Devi in Sangareddy. He was accused number one in a 2005 case relating to manhandling, abusing and assaulting the then Collector Anil Kumar Singhal and other officials. The judge has rejected the MP's recall petition for cancellation of the non-bailable warrant against him. While rejecting the plea, the judge remanded him to a 14-day judicial custody.
Asaduddin also filed a second bail petition which was admitted and posted to Tuesday for hearing. Asaduddin's brother Akbaruddin Owaisi was the accused number two in the same case. He was also produced in court on a prisoner transit warrant. When the judge asked Asaduddin as to why he has not appeared in the court till date, the MP replied that he was busy with Parliament sessions.
While remanding Asaduddin to judicial custody, the judge admitted his request to be treated as 'special prisoner'. The police shifted him to Medak district jail at Kandi and was alloted undertrial prisoner number 1273.
Immediately after the MP was remanded, the MIM party workers has given a call for a two-day bandh. About 200 MIM activists reached the court and raised slogans favoring Asaduddin. The first day ended with a mild response in Sangareddy town.
