CBI JD Lakshminarayana provided with Y category security

CBI Joint Director VV Lakshminarayana has been provided with 'Y' category security. The decision is taken by the Centre keeping in view of the high profile cases being investigated by the CBI. A communication to this effect has been sent by the Centre to the State government to increase the security cover for the JD.

The agency is investigating the cases involving Obulapuram Mining Corporation (OMC), Emaar Hills Township and the disproportionate assets case against Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy. Lakshminaryana's jurisdiction also extends to Karnataka where the CBI is investigating illegal mining involving Associated Mining Company. The CBI JD will be given a bullet proof car, two gunmen with him all the time. Armed security men will also be present at his office and residence. Meanwhile, Lakshminarayana has denied allegations that the charge-sheet in the disproportionate cases against Jagan as weak.

Lakshminarayana belongs the Maharashtra cadre and has been sent on deputation to the Centre. He is part of the state's agency since June 2006. Though, he is at the level of IG, Lakshminarayana has refused personal security in the past.
