  • Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at a high level delegation meet from Andhra Pradesh. The Prime Minister promised to look into the issue of State's demand for increased allocation of gas to the power units.
  • The Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested Bellary MLA Somashekhar Reddy in connection to the bail scam involving his brother and former Karnataka minister Gali Janardhan Reddy. The court has granted him to judicial custody till August 17. Somashekhar Reddy was questioned by the ACB for three days.
  • The Telugu Desam Parliamentary Party (TDPP) has decided to abstain from the Vice Presidential election which is to be held on Monday. A meeting of the TDPP was convened by the party president N Chandrababu Naidu. Telugu Desam has six MPs in the Lok Sabha and five in the Rajya Sabha. The party also abstained from the presidential election last month.
  • A life prisoner escaped from Charlapalli Central Prison Monday afternoon. According to sources, K Krishnaiah (36) belonging to Kottur in Shabad mandal is on a life imprisonment in the murder of his brother in 2004. The court sentenced him to life imprisonment in 2007. He has been lodged at the central jail since then. Considering his good behavior, the jail officials have appointed him as a salesman in the new canteen. He went missing since afternoon. The police are investigating the issue.
  • The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday directed former minister P Shankar Rao to file an affidavit to substantiate his allegations that there being a criminal conspiracy behind the government's sale of red saddlers. The case came up before the Division Bench comprising of acting Chief Justice PC Ghoseand Justice Vilas V Afzalpurkar.
