Jagan Mohan Reddy's Hunger Strike

Former Kadapa MP Jagan Mohan Reddy began his 48-hour hunger strike at Seetammapadalu in Vijayawada today. The arrangements for his fasting has been done at a grand scale by his supporters. This has also become the topic of discussion among most of the people in Vijayawada.

Thousands of Supporters reached the state guest house to visit Jagan in the morning today. Thousands of people are taking part in Jagan's deeksha. Speaking to the media, former minister and staunch supporter of Jagan, Pilli Subash Chandra Bose said that people are very excited to take part in Jagan's deeksha. He said that thousands of people are voluntarily taking part in the deeksha from all constituencies in Vijayawada. Special pujas were being performed for Jagan by breaking 101 coconuts. NRIs from America and Mumbai are observing fast today showing their solidary to Jagan's deeksha. Jagan's supporters say that as many as 50,000 vehicles are transporting people from all over the state to the camp site. The vehicles are being stopped 2-3 kms away from the site and people have to reach the site by walk.

Former Minister Konathala Ramakrishna, MLC Pulla Padmavathi, Ambati Rambabu, Gone Prakash, Lella Appireddy, Tadi Shakuntala, Dharmavarapu Subrahmanyam, Chandra Jaydeep, PNV Prasad, Lakshmi Parvati and Actress Roja have reached the camp site to show their solidarity.

Widow of NTR, Lakshmi Parvati said that Jagan is gaining support from the people in large numbers. She said that the schemes introduced by his father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy will not be forgotten by the people.

MLC Pulla Padmavati said that women will participate in Jagan's deeksha in large numbers. She said that women are the one who made Y S Rajasekhar Reddy Chief Minister on both the occasions.

Actor Dharmavarapu Subramanyam said that people have forgotten the dipping temperatures in the state and are arriving at the camp site in large numbers. He added that all that people see is their leader Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Jagan begins his hunger strike

Jagan Mohan Reddy has reached Vijayawada at 8 in the morning. He offered special prayers at the Durga temple. He later began his 48-hour hunger strike. Sitting in front of a statue of his father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, Jagan is accompanied by former minister Konda Surekha and Pilli Subash Chandra Bose, Actress Roja, Lakshmi Parvati and other supporters.

Jagan Mohan Reddy spoke at his deeksha at 4:30 in the evening today.

Addressing the people who joined him at the deeksha, Jagan severely criticized the policies of the Government. He said that the schemes of Y S Rajasekhara Reddy were forgotten by the current Government in the state. He said that every farmer in the state is incurring a loss since a year. He questioned the Government on how a farmer can clear his debts which he loses his crops to the rain.

Jagan Mohan said that he thought that the Government will follow in the footsteps of his father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy. Jagan reminded that it is because of farmers in the state that the Congress is in power today. He also questioned the Government why they aren't giving loans to handloom workers at 25 ps. Jagan concluded his speech saying that the response of his deeksha should be heard at New Delhi.

Traffic Rerouted in Vijayawada

The traffic at major locations in the district has been rerouted. Speaking to the media Vijayawada Police Commissioner Seetaramanjenyulu said that heavy motor vehicles from Chennai to Hyderabad will be rerouted to NH 9 at Ongole via Medarametla, Addanki, Dachepalli, Miryalagudem and Narketpalli. Similarly heavy motor vehicles from Hyderabad to Chennai will be rerouted to No. 5 at Chilukuluripet via Nalgona, Miryalagudem and Dachepalli. Heavy Motor Vehicles from Hyderabd to Kolkata will be rerouted via Suryapet to Khammam, Aswaraopet, Deverapalli and Nidadavolu via NH 5.
