Group of Ministers takes important decisions


The Cabinet on Wednesday approved the recommendations given by the Group of Ministers to ensure that all the students eligible for post-matric scholarships and fee reimbursement scheme availed the benefit. The Cabinet also approved the guidelines for issuance of income certificates by the Tahsildars and make them accountable for any discrepancy.

Giving details of the Cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, K Rosaiah, the Minister for Information and Public Relations J Geetha Reddy said that while the Cabinet resolved to extend the fee reimbursement scheme on a saturation mode, it would be extended only for students given admission under the Convenor's quota in various courses. The other recommendations of GoM included giving unique number to every student till the completion of course and 75 percent of attendance stipulation among others.

The Cabinet also approved to lay foundation stone for the YSR Smrithi Vanam at Pavuralagutta and YSR Memorial Park in the city on September 2 to mark the first death anniversary of Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy. The Cabinet ratified the decision for amending AP Municipal Act 1955 for payment of salaries to municipal teachers and staff through treasury except the employees of GHMC, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada Municipal Corporations. The Cabinet also sanctioned Rs.500 crore to the Hyderabad Metro Rail Project for pre-construction work in the current financial year in a follow up of its earlier decision to award Rs.12,132 crore to Larsen and Turbo. Geetha Reddy said that L&T had emerged as the lowest bidder in the global tenders by seeking a viability gap funding of Rs.1,458 crore and it would be entirely paid by the Central Government.
