Mystery shrouds the lock up death of Jyothi Rachana of Visakhapatnam in the II Town police station on Sunday night. As Jyothi Rachana was accused in a kidnap case in II Town police limits here, the police brought her, her husband and their two year old son from Visakhapatnam to Ongole for interrogation on Sunday. According to sources, unable to digest the humiliation over her arrest, she committed suicide by hanging herself to a ceiling fan in the police station at around 10.30pm on Sunday. When the police took her to the hospital, the doctors declared dead.

Superintendent of Police V Navinchand who visited the police station and inquired into the happenings on Monday morning, suspended the Sub Inspector, Altaf Hussain, three constables viz., Narayana, Rajaiah and Sambasivarao and two Home Guards holding them responsible for negligence.

It all started with one Venkateswarulu of Gopalapatnam here complaining to the police that his wife and two daughters were missing. He complained that some persons from Visakhapatnam had kidnapped his elder daughter, Anuradha more than a year ago and later kidnapped his wife. Bhartati, and younger daughter Sandhya too Acting on his information, police raided a premises in Swagathnagar at Visakhapatnam and arrested Jyothi Rachana and her husband for kidnapping the three women. They got Bharathi and Sandhya released and found that Anuradha had been sent to Mumbai. He ordered an inquiry into the lack of supervision by the Circle Inspector and DSP. The case may provide leads to the police in the detection of women's trafficking.
