Junior docs strike comes to a happy end

Government agrees to hike medicos stipend

The strike by Junior docs in Andhra Pradesh has come to happy end with the Government agreeing to hike the medicos stipend to Rs. 20,000. The conclusion to this effect has come after seven rounds of discussions. The Junior doctors have also decided to end their indefinite hunger strike and agreed to attend to their usual duties starting tomorrow.

Earlier during the day, the police have made a vain bid at the Gandhi Hospital to move the fasting medicos from their camp. The medicos made stiff resistance to this move. The police ended their task while the medicos shifted their location to the third floor of the outpatients block.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court and the State Human Rights Commission have both taken a serious view on the entire episode. It may be recalled that the SHRC has yesterday clarified that the junior doctors have no right to strike. The docs strike continued even after the State Government has presented its offer to enhance the stipend yesterday.
