Enforcement of law should be made stricter, he says

Governor ND Tiwari on Sunday said a national debate was required to educate people on the hazards of consumption of tobacco and that the enforcement of the law needed to be made striker. Flagging off a 'World No Tobacco Day' rally taken out by 13 association of dental professionals including a voluntary agency, Sarvodaya Trust, he said studies had established a direct link between consumption of tobacco in any form and cancer of the lungs and throat.

He said despite the government's efforts to improve awareness, fatalities were on the rise so much so, it had become a cause of concern. He regretted that merchants of death were content reaping profits while burdening society with huge social costs and suffering. Hence greater accountability was in order, he said.

The rally was an initiative, primarily of the Alumni Association of the Government Dental College and Hospital with the help of other like minded organizations, coordinated by association president MS Gowd. Once it is flagged off, a few dentists walked up to the Rajiv Gandhi Circle in Somajiguda, holding aloft banners and placards.
