District Collectors given instructions

The daily wages per person under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) has been enhanced to Rs.100 from Rs.80 at present. The government has issued directions in this regard to all the District Collectors to ensure payment of new wage with immediate effect. The Chief Secretary, P Ramakanth Reddy will be addressing a video conference with the District Collectors on Friday.

The Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy wanted the Collectors to exhaust the NREGS funds before the onset of monsoon and not allow them to lapse. The Principal Secretary, Rural Development and NREGS, K Raju said the implementation of the scheme was in full swing.

He said that Vizianagaram topped the State in providing gainful employment to 2.125 lakh workers daily. The had also asked the Chief Secretary to pass the directive to Collectors to speed up the issuance of title deeds of forest lands to eligible farmers.
