Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy makes announcement


On Thursday, the Home Minister, P Sabita Indra Reddy announced that a helpline with a toll-free number will be set up to deal with the complaints of atrocities and violence on women and increase the strength of women in police force. She made these announcements after assuming charge amid a huge crowd of admirers in J Block of the Secretariat. She was given a red carpet welcome by her followers from Maheswaram Assembly constituency.

As she took charge, priests chanted Vedic hymns and performed puja. The Additional DGP (Law and Order) AK Khan and senior most officers of the department are present . She said that the inspiration to create a help line from a women of Srikakulam, one of the several hundred people who called on telephone to complement her. The help line would respond all complaints of domestic violence, eve-teasing and atrocities. The Home Minister said there was considerable improvement in the law and order situation and the Naxalite problem was greatly controlled now so much so that the Centre was citing the State as a model to other States.

She, once again appealed the Naxalites to join the political mainstream and also warned that whoever indulged in or encouraged terrorism would be dealt with ruthlessly. In this connection, she said a National Security Guards unit would begin full scale operations very shortly. She said that nearly 17,000 police men would be recruited during the year.
