Indefinite fast by Kovvur MLA

Wife and few nursing students join him in solidarity

Kovvur TDP MLA TV Rama Rao began his indefinite fast near Indira Park on Monday demanding withdrawal of false cases of rape and murder against his besides the CID enquiry. His wife and some students of the Nursing College he runs at Nidadavole in West Godavari sat beside him to express solidarity. He managed to finally commence his fast on Monday afternoon after his attempts to start the protest first at Mahatma Gandhi statue on the Assembly premises and then at BR Ambedkar statue at Tank Bund were foiled by police.

The day long drama began at 11.30am when he and some of the TDP MLAs and MLCs trooped into the Assembly premises. As they tried to enter the fenced lawns surrounding Mahatma Gandhi statue and stage a protest, the Assembly security staff swung into action and argued with the staff saying they had a right as legislators leading to some tense moment. After sometime, the group of MLAs shouting slogans against the Chief Minister moved over to Dr.Ambedkar's statue but with a few minutes after Rao sat to begin his fat this time, police personnel came to the scene and after another round arugmentsswhisked them away to Gandhinager police station.

He was released an hour later, he rushed to Indidra Park, the designated place for protests. He announced that he would not give up his fast till government conceded his demands. The MLA said he was being persecuted because he was a Dalit and became MLA for the first time defeating the Congress rival. There was neither a victim of murder nor a complaint lodged by her family members, yet the case was being pursed.
