TDP MLAs stage dharna before CM camp office

61 MLAs, 6MPs and 10 MLCs taken into police custody

Demanding withdrawal of criminal proceedings against Kovvur MLA TV Rama Rao, the public representatives of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) were taken into custody when they staged a dharna in front of the Chief Minister's camp office. The police took as many as 61 MLAs, 10MLCs and 6 MPs into custody. When the group was shifted to Trimulgherry Police Station, TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu joined them there and led another spell of demonstration. Former CPI MLAs Ch Venkata Reddy and K Ramakrishna and CPI (M) Rajya Sabha Member P Madhu also participated in the demonstration.

Deputy leader of the TDP in the Assembly M Narasimhulu handed over a representation highlighting the alleged harassment of Rama Rao in a false case of rape and murder of a nursing college run by the latter at Nidadavole after the Chief Minister Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy arrived at the camp office. He also alleged that Rama Rao was targeted as he was a SC and demanded withdrawal of the case and CID inquiry. Chief Minister said that the case was transferred after suggestion were given by the officials of the Crime Investigation Department. He also said that he took special care about the welfare of SCs citing an example of a member of his family who married in that community.

The TDP leaders raised slogans against him and squatted in front of the door after Dr. Reddy turned down the demand. The demonstrating members are cleared from the premises but the group again staged a dharna outside when the police shifted them to Trimulgherry. Chandrababu Naidu said that the MLA in question was booked though there was no evidence of his involvement.
