The Chief Minister, Dr YS Rajasekhara Reddy reviewing the progress of works under various urban development schemes with the Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, A Ramanarayana Reddy along with Principal Secretaries CVSK Sharma and Pushpa Subramanyam on Sunday said that the State Government has taken up an ambitious and comprehensive plan to make the State a slum free State in the next five years. He wanted the infrastructural development works to facilitate a holistic growth of urban areas.

The Government would pay special attention on implementation of Integrated Housing and Slum Development and said that the objective is to make the State a slum free by 2014. He said apart from JNNURM, Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns and Basic Services for Urban Poor. He asked the officials to focus on development of Greater Hyderabad as a futuristic metropolitan city with GHMC ensuring planned growth of civic and infrastructure facilities in Hyderabad agglomeration area.

The Chief Minister said that a decision on Hyderabad Metro Rail Project proposed to ease traffic congestion in Hyderabad city will be taken up soon and asked the officials to take up immediately the ambitious Hussain Sagar Lake and Catchment Area Improvement Project. A perceptive plan was prepared for tapping 10tmct of Godavari water from Pranahita-Chevella and tenders on EPC contract system were invited and the works had been allotted to the prospective agencies.
