The Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy on Wednesday reportedly pulled the Nagarkurnool MP, Manda Jagannadh for slapping the Bank Manager of AP Grameena Vikas Bank in Mahabubnagar. Sensing seriousness of the issue, the Chief Minister summoned the MP who accompained by former Minister G Chinna Reddy met the advisor to Government KVP Ramachandra Rao and later they called on the Chief Minister.

It is believed that the Chief Minister has questioned the MP over the assault when he had other means to lodge a complaint. The issue took a serious turn with several telephonic inquiries from New Delhi. National Channels are playing up the issue causing embarrassment to the Government, he remarked. The assault on Ravinder Reddy, Branch Manager of AP Grameena Vikas Bank of Uppunuthala branch on Monday turned into a major issue with the Minister for Law M Veerappa Moily who is the AICC in charge of AP Affairs sought a report on the episode.

Meanwhile, Congress President Sonia Gandhi sought an explanation from him. Even before Sonia's summons, Union Minister for Law, Veerappa Moily asked the PCC to submit a report on the incident immediately. The MP will meet the both Sonia Gandhi and Moily on Wednesday to explain his side of story. Jagannath claimed it was only an argument and alleged that the Manager was drunk and did not bother to get up for his chair when he went into the bank and he just asked him why he had not been releasing loans to SC/ST applicants. He claimed that the behavior of the branch manager and language made him angry and he is ready to face any probe. The State level Regional Rural Bank Employees Association which has launched an agitation against the MP, threatened direct action on July 5 if he failed to tender an unconditional apology to the Branch Manger.
