AICC president likely to issue a statement on Monday

Union Minister Sai Pratap shares various topics he discussed with Ms Sonia Gandhi

Union Minister of State for Steel, A Sai Pratap on Sunday night indicated that the Congress leadership may make a statement on Monday that would lead to resolving the current political turmoil. Recalling his discussions with the AICC president Sonia Gandhi and Union Ministers Veerappa Moily, Pranab Mukharjee and P Chidambaram, he said they indicated that the AICC core committee would deliberate on Telangana issue soon after the Rajya Sabha adjourns sine die on Monday before making a statement.

Speaking to media persons, he said that the issue would be resolved soon at the hunger strike camp in front of Collectorate after calling on the two fasting Congress MLAs C Adinarayana Reddy and G Srikanth Reddy. Excluding confidence that Andhra Pradesh would continue as one entity, the Union Minister said quoting Sonia Gandhi that evolving a consensus and adoption of a resolution in the State Assembly Legislative were mandatory in order to carve out a new State.

Sonia Gandhi told him that Andhra Pradesh would not be bifurcated if a resolution in the Assembly failed, the Union Minister said and added that there was no cause for concern. Stating that he personally favored the unified Andhra Pradesh, the Minister expressed confidence that resignations of the MLAs and MLCs would not be accepted although they were submitted to the Assembly Speaker. He found fault with TRS president Chandrasekhara Rao for having undertaken an indefinite fast and he ought to have realized that the people of Telangana voted for a united State.
