World's largest McDonald's outlet set to open in London Olympics stadium complex

June 26, 2012 - London

McDonald's has unveiled it's biggest outlet outside the Olympics stadium, and the fast food joint believes 3,000 square-meter site, which is tipped to serve 50,000 Big Macs in just four weeks could be hit with both families and athletes.

The fast food joint's UK boss, Jill McDonald, also slammed critics condemning the company's partnership with the London Olympics.

McDonald's huge restaurant is just one of four in the Olympic Park. They include a 24-hour tented restaurant in the Athletes Village.

"The one in the Athletes Village is likely to be the busiest of all of them and athletes know more than most people what they should and shouldn't be eating," The Sun quoted McDonald, as saying.

"Being here helps us show people how different we are to people's perception of the 'old' McDonald's. We are confident that we have the breadth of menu to meet anybody's needs," she added.

The Academy of Royal Medical Colleges is one of the organisations to lament McDonald's role as Official Restaurant Partner of the 2012 Games. But McDonald's sees the Games as the perfect chance to show how far it has progressed in the past decade.

The restaurant in the Olympic Park's "World Square" will offer wraps and mango smoothies alongside the famous Big Mac and fries.

Two hundred staff from across the UK will be working at any one time in the restaurant. They will serve 14,500 people a day from 20 tills and terminals in "express" lanes.
