Raikkonen believes he can fight for top spot despite early setbacks

April 4, 2012 - London

The 2007 World champion Kimi Raikkonen has claimed that his Lotus is good enough to fight for the championship, and he is also ready to fight at the front.

Raikkonen, who is back in Formula 1 after two years of rallying, has shown flashes of world-beating speed, and his teammate Romain Grosjean has done the same.

However, Raikkonen has been compromised by being knocked out of qualifying early in Australia and copping a penalty for a gearbox change in Malaysia. Grosjean crashed out in both races without being able to show his potential.

Raikkonen is still positive and feels they have got of to an encouraging start.

"I think we've got off to an encouraging start. It has been frustrating sometimes but we've shown we can deal with problems and come back stronger," The Sun quoted Raikkonen, as saying. The car feels good and we clearly have the pace to be at the front. We just need some better luck," he added.
