Magic Johnson still going strong with wife of 20 years

July 3, 2012 - London

Magic Johnson and his wife, Cookie, showed their relationship is still going strong after 20 years of marriage, as the couple enjoyed a holiday in Italy.

The basketball legend and his Mrs, who married in 1991, were seen strolling arm-in-arm through the city of Portofino, the Daily Mail reported.

Magic, real name Earvin Johnson, Jr, posted a photo of the couple on his public Facebook page.

"Cookie and I having a wonderful time in Portofino together," he wrote.

The former athlete, 52, had recently jet to the city from St Tropez, where he joined his son Andre.

Back in Italy, Johnson and his wife, real name Earlitha, were seen walking the cobblestone streets on their romantic outing.

The basketball star was impossible to miss, towering 6ft 9in over his wife, wearing a graphic T-shirt of a basketball player flying through the air, and red shorts.

Cookie looked elegant in white capri pants and a burnt orange blouse she paired with brown embellished sandals and a matching belt.

The couple appeared relaxed and happy during their walk, with Johnson placing his hand on her shoulder, and stopping to fist-bump fans who stopped them on the streets.

Ever the gentleman, he was seen helping his wife board a speed boat before the couple embarked on their latest adventure.

The couple, who married in September 1991, dated on and off for 12 years before walking down the aisle.

Two months after their nuptials, he announced his first of three retirements from the NBA after learning he had contracted HIV.

In addition to Magic's eldest son, Andre, whom he shares with Melissa Mitchell, the couple also has son Earvin III and a daughter, Elisa.

Despite his personal trials, Johnson - enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2002 and voted three times the NBA's most-valuable player - has enjoyed equally astonishing success both on and off the court.
