August 22, 2012 - London, United Kingdom

Chelsea captain John Terry believes that they couldn’t afford to lose any matches as it is important to keep on winning games to keep on the momentum in the race for the 2012-13 Premier League.

Chelsea won their first match of the season against Wigan Athletic 2-0. He stressed the importance of getting to a good start to recapture the Barclays Premier League title. Chelsea suffered a serious setback last year when they finished sixth in the points table and the club had to sack their head coach Andre Villas-Boas.

Speaking to the club website, Terry said, “You definitely don't want to fall behind, which is what happened last season. Once you've fallen six or seven points behind, you can't see the likes of Man City losing very often, and the same goes for United and Arsenal.”

The new season of the Premier League gave mixed results. Chelsea and Manchester City went on to win their opening games, while Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur all lost. Arsenal managed a draw. Chelsea will play Reading at Stamford Bridge next, their first home game in the new season.
