India's bronze medalist Gagan Narang to be made an IAS officer

July 30, 2012 - London, United Kingdom

Gagan Narang is likely to become an IAS officer after his bronze medal winning performance at the 2012 London Olympics. Sports Minister Ajay Maken, who is elated at Narang's bronze medal told media that he would be immediately made an IAS officer along with any other medalist in the games.

However, it is not yet clear whether Narang would perform the duties of an IAS officer or whether he would be just entitled to the perks of an IAS officer. "It is a small appreciation, because whatever we give them, however much we reward them, it will never match the huge service that they have done for the country", Maken said.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has congratulated Narang and announced a reward of Rs. 1 crore.

As soon as Gagan has won the bronze medal, several eminent personalities have congratulated Narang on the social networking sites.
