One of the favorites to win the Olympic gold medal in high jump Blanka Vlasic is ruled out of Olympics. The Croatian high jumper has ruled herself out of the 2012 London Olympics because of injury issues.

"I've been postponing the decision about my participation in London... but time is running out and time is the only thing that I need right now. I will not be able to get into the top shape in time for Olympic Games, I'm not interested in jumping below my usual level, so it is the best thing to stay home and get the healing process to the end", Vlasic said.

Blanka Vlasic underwent ankle and heel surgery in January and has been struggling with a bacterial infection since then.

She is a former high jump world champion and has the second-best jump of all time with 2.08 metres. She has a history of health problems. She underwent thyroid surgery which sidelined her for most of 2005. Vlasic won the gold medal in 2007 world championships and silver at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Vlasic won the World championship again in 2009 and finished second in the 2011 world championships in South Korea.
