Gagan Narang wins Bronze in Air Rifle event

Indian shooter Gagan Narang became the first Indian to win a medal at the 2012 London Olympics. He won the bronze medal in the Men's 10m Air Rifle event. Narang qualified to the final and has carried 598 from the qualifying event. He has scored 103.1 points from 10 shots in the final to make his aggregate score of 701.1 points.

Romania's Alin George won the gold, while Niccolo Campriani received the silver medal. Earlier in the event, Indian favorite and 2008 gold medalist Abhinav Bindra failed to qualify to the main event.

Narang has won four gold medals in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. He also won two silver in the Guangzhou Asian Games a month later. Narang has been honored with Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Arjuna Award and Padma Shree awards.

President Pranab Mukherjee has congratulated Gagan Narang for winning the bronze medal.
