F C Porto fined over 16K pounds for fans monkey taunt

April 4, 2012 - London

F.C. Porto has been fined 16,700 pounds after their supporters taunted Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli with monkey chants.

UEFA confirmed the punishment last night following a meeting of their control and disciplinary body.

F.C. Porto has three days to appeal against the fine.

Manchester City lodged a complaint after Balotelli was racially abused during the first leg of their Europa League last-32 tie in Portugal on February 16.

There were outbreaks of monkey chanting throughout the match, which City won 2-1, but it appeared most noticeable when Balotelli was substituted 12 minutes from time.
