Button and Hamilton's cars get new nose, boosting their F1 title hopes

May 10, 2012 - London

McLaren drivers Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton's chances of winning this weekend's Spanish Grand Prix have been boosted after their cars got a nose job, which improves the vehicles aerodynamics.

The duo suffered a disastrous last race in Bahrain, with Button failing to finish and Hamilton settling for eighth place despite starting in second on the grid.

Team boss Martin Whitmarsh is hopeful the change will reignite his drivers' title challenge but admits he is unsure on the improvements also made by his rivals, The Sun reports.

"There's a reasonable chance we will see the new nose on Sunday, which will be the first time our drivers experience it. We got a lot of feedback from Mugello, so we have the data to set it up and can find the performance on track," he said.

"You are managing the airflow that is enjoyed by the rest of the car. You are looking to find very small improvements. I believe we will be competitive in Spain and going forward, but you don't know what other teams are going to do.

"We have a car clearly able to be on front row in each of the first four races and therefore the pace is inherently there. We are working to continuously develop the car, but you can never be confident that other teams won't up their game and give you harder time," The Sun quoted Whitmarsh, as saying.
