2012 London Olympics opening ceremony enthralls millions of spectators

The opening ceremony of 2012 London Olympics featured a star-studded show and was opened by seven unknown teenage athletes who lit the Olympic cauldron. The ceremony which was seen by millions around the world featured a number of entertaining events including musical celebration of British history. Inspired by Shakespeare's "The Temptest", British film director Danny Boyle put up a show together enthralling the spectators.

The highlight of the show was movie magic by Boyle who used tricks to film Queen Elizabeth II parachuting into the stadium with Daniel Craig as James Bond 007. The parade of the nations was another highlight of the evening with nearly 10,500 athletes marching behind the flag of their respective countries. 204 nations are participating in the 2012 Olympics.

Greece, which is the spiritual home of the games, led the parade. Host Great Britain was last as hosts. The spectators included Prince William and his wife Kate and former world heavyweight champion Muhammad Ali.
