Vulnerable Oz team is in transition phase, says Ali Bacher

November 17, 2011 - Cape Town

Former South African cricket chief Ali Bacher feels that the current Australian team led-by Michael Clarke is vulnerable and can be easily thrashed by South Africa in the ongoing two-Test series.

"This SA team has an excellent chance to do what we did (in 1970) and win the series here (at the Wanderers). Without Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath and Adam Gilchrist amongst their ranks and with Ricky Ponting at the end of his career, the Aussies are vulnerable," Sport24 quoted Bacher, as saying.

"They are in a transition phase," he added.

Bacher also reckons that that national team's coaching trio of Gary Kirsten (coach), Russel Domingo (assistant coach) and Allan Donald (bowling coach) are the best the team has had since its readmission to international cricket in 1991.

South Africa had won the first Test in Cape Town by eight wickets.
