Vettel eyes Schumacher's lucky 13 F1 GP record

October 27, 2011 - London

German racer Sebastian Vettel reportedly has his eye on the record books.

The Red Bull speed merchant wants to equal Michael Schumacher's 2004 mark of 13 wins in a season if he takes the last three races.

According to The Sun, he needs two more pole positions to match Brit Nigel Mansell's 14 set in 1992.

Ahead of Sunday's first ever-grand prix in India, Vettel, 24, said: "I care about the sport, I know its history and the numbers according to the drivers. I like to see from time to time your name somewhere but I don't set myself targets."

The main obstacle to Vettel rewriting history looks likely to come from McLaren, who are enjoying a late-season resurgence with a win and a pole position over the past two races.

On paper, the Buddh International Circuit outside Delhi should suit cars with good straight-line speed, that perform well in a low-downforce setting.

That would include McLaren, as well as Mercedes and even 'home' team Force India.
