'Ruthless' Clarke orders Oz pacers to target Indian tailenders with bouncers

December 30, 2011 - Melbourne

Australia's skipper Michael Clarke showed his ruthless intention during his team's emphatic first Test victory by encouraging his pacers to bowl bouncers at the Indian tailenders.

The Australian captain stood at first slip pointing at the coat of arms on his cap as Peter Siddle ran in to bowl, prompting a vicious bouncer to Indian spinner Ravi Ashwin which he helplessly fended in the air to present the simplest of catches.

It was the moment that reinforced how Clarke wanted his inconsistent side to attack the Indians as the Australians swept to a 122-run victory at the MCG inside four days.

"Against such a good team you can't afford to give them a sniff at all," the Daily Telegraph quoted Clarke, as saying.

"When you're on top you've got to make the most of it and I thought we did that really well today with the ball," he said.
