Pak cricketers Yousuf, Misbah differ on impact of T20 cricket on youth

June 16, 2011 - Islamabad

Pakistan cricket captain Misbahul Haq and former captain Mohammad Yousuf have differed over the impact of Twenty20 internationals on young cricketers.

While Misbah felt T20 cricket was a reality and it was here to stay, Yousuf said young players needed to stay away from the fastest format of cricketisbah said the players just needed to adjust themselves to different formats.

"Any good player can do that and I think all three formats can co-exist together without any problems," The Daily Times quoted Misbah, as saying.

Yousuf who differed from Misbah on the issue, said: "I would advise young players in particular to stay away from T20 cricket because it does not allow them to develop or improve as proper cricketers".

"The T20 format is such that there is no room for youngsters to improve or learn to play better cricket. To me it does not represent serious cricket," said Yousuf, who has played 90 Tests and 288 ODIs but has featured in just three T20 matches for Pakistan.

He said he was concerned over the growing importance being given to T20 cricket in many countries and pointed out it was already affecting the careers of many cricketers by forcing them to choose between cash and country.

He also advised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to organize only one major domestic T20 event.
