Oz Test team has lost competitive edge: Simpson

October 27, 2011 - Sydney

Former Australian cricket captain and coach Bob Simpson believes that Australian cricket has lost its competitive edge and is suffering from "fashions, fads and theories".

Speaking before being inducted as a Bradman Foundation Honouree during last night's Gala Dinner at the SCG, the Daily Telegraph quoted Simpson as claiming that there was a "lack of structure around where we're going".

Twice captain of Australia in the '60s and '70s, before becoming the national team's first coach in the '80s, Simpson was known for his discipline, hard work and technical intuition.

They are qualities he passed on to Steve Rixon at club and state level, which have gained the former NSW and New Zealand coach some strong supporters in his push to become the next national coach.
