Man City can win Premier League, Championship League without Tevez: Vieira

July 19, 2011 - London

Manchester City's Football Development Executive Patrick Vieira has insisted that the club can win the Premier League title and the Champions League title in Europe with or without current skipper Carlos Tevez.

Vieira called on City's other superstars to step up to the plate to fill Tevez's boots when the Argentine hit man leaves.

Midfield maestro Vieira, who retired last week, was quoted by The Sun as saying: "If he comes to leave it will be a sad day for the club, for the Premier League - he has been a fantastic player over the past couple of years."

"Everyone has their opinion, I can't speak for Carlos. He has done what he wants to do. The club must accept that, that is why the club accepted the offer for him," he added.

"Of course he is top class and to lose him is a blow. But you can't keep a player if he doesn't want to stay. There are plenty of players in the squad to challenge for the title - Yaya Toure, Edin Dzeko, Mario Balotelli, David Silva. It is up to the manager to replace him - and when you lose players like Carlos you will fight hard to replace him. But it is a chance for other players to take extra responsibility and to be the stars," Vieira said.
