Lance Armstrong's 'tweet' invites fans for a cycle ride

July 18, 2011 - Dornoch

Hundreds of people swarmed to Dornoch to take part in cycling legend Lance Armstrong's invitation for a 'Twitter ride'.

Armstrong posted an open invitation on the Twitter asking people to join him for a 30-mile round route across Sutherland town of Dornoch in Scotland.

"Alright Scotland - it's on. Twitter ride! Meet 5pm tomorrow (Sunday) in Dornoch (Sutherland County) at The Eagle Pub. 30-mile loop," Armstrong wrote on the Twitter.

Over 1000 Armstrong fans and cycling enthusiasts turned up at the event, The BBC reports.

The seven-times Tour de France winner has earlier held Twitter rides in Los Angeles, Dublin, Paisley and Adelaide.

In 2009, the American former professional road-racing cyclist organized the first Twitter ride around Paisley in Renfrewshire, Scotland.

Lance Armstrong's success in the sport is seen as a remarkable feat as he had undergone several treatments for Testicular cancer after being diagnosed at the age of 25.
