'Ladies man' Berlusconi tried to seduce Dell'Olio during '94 election campaign

October 15, 2011 - London

A source close to Nancy Dell'Olio has revealed that Silvio Berlusconi tried to seduce the property lawyer when she worked on his election campaign in 1994.

Having studied law at Rome University, followed by a masters from New York, Dell'Olio returned to Rome in the early 1990s to kick-start her legal career, when the larger-than-life politician persuaded her to stand as a candidate for his Forza Italia party in 1995.

He sent her flowers, wined and dined her on several occasions, and repeatedly called and texted the former girlfriend of Swedish football manager Sevn-Goran Eriksson, to woo her.

The 75-year-old Prime Minister of Italy made his intentions crystal clear, and suggested that they retire to a hotel room, which the lawyer declined.

The two personalities have been good friends since and the pair last spoke about two months ago, and Berlusconi was due to attend Dell'Olio's 50th birthday celebrations at the end of August.

"Nancy and Silvio go back some years, and have had some fun times together. Silvio was smitten with Nancy's striking looks and no-nonsense personality and at one stage, the pair were regularly going out for dinner," The Mirror quoted a source close to Dell'Olio as saying.

"Initially, it was in a group and all very platonic but after a while the numbers started fizzling out, until Nancy found herself on a date, alone, with the PM.

"She was flattered by his attentions but said it could never go anywhere. She said they should just remain friends. They are still on good terms and Nancy invited Silvio to her birthday party," the source added.
