'I told Joe before game about scoring against him,' says Carroll

April 13, 2011 - London

Liverpool's new signing Andy Carroll has said he warned close pal Joe Hart he was going to break his scoring drought against Manchester City.

Carroll opened his Liverpool account with two goals in Monday night's 3-0 drubbing of City, The Sun reports.

The pair became mates during their time together in the England squad and spent part of the build-up to the Anfield showdown winding each other up.

Carroll said: "I told Joe before the game I was going to score. He was giving me a bit of banter but I'm just happy we got the three points. It was unbelievable."

"I got the goals I've been wanting, although a hat-trick would have been nice. I'm here to score goals, though the result is the most important thing. The team spirit here is great," The Sun quoted him, as saying.

Liverpool still has a chance of finishing fifth and grabbing a Europa League spot.
